Security Council Press Statement on Terrorist Attack in Kabul, Afghanistan

The members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the heinous and cowardly terrorist attack that took place in Kabul, Afghanistan, on 21 March, on Nowruz, which resulted in at least 33 people killed and 65 injured, for which the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL/Da’esh) has claimed responsibility.

The members of the Security Council expressed their deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and to the Government of Afghanistan and they wished a speedy and full recovery to those who were injured.

HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL CONCLUDES GENERAL DEBATE ON THE ANNUAL REPORT OF THE HIGH COMMISSIONER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS

The Human Rights Council this morning concluded its general debate on the annual report of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and reports of the Office of the High Commissioner and the Secretary-General.

The Council started the general debate on Wednesday, 21 March after hearing the presentation of reports on Burundi, Sri Lanka, Guatemala, Honduras, Colombia, Cyprus and Iran, and a summary can be seen here.

In the general discussion, delegations noted that some progress was being made to improve the human rights situations in those countries,

The Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights concluded this afternoon the review of the sixth periodic reports of Spain on its implementation of the provisions of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
